ITINERARE Rare Disease Summer School

The ITINERARE Rare Disease Summer School builds on the successful radiz Rare Disease Summer School(2013–2019) and offers a unique, interdisciplinary learning experience for early-career researchers interested in rare diseases.

Over three intensive and inspiring days, participants explore cutting-edge scientific developments and current ELSI topics in the rare disease field.

Through interactive lectures and hands-on workshops led by national and international experts, the program addresses topics such as advances in exome and genome sequencing, development and regulation of novel therapies including ATMPs, the use of model organisms and human in vitro models, the design of rare disease clinical trials, regulatory frameworks, person-centred and patient perspectives in rare diseases, and ethical challenges related to genetic testing and treatment.

The summer school also highlights how research on rare diseases can advance our understanding of common diseases.

A key element of the program is peer exchange: all participants present their own research projects during dedicated poster sessions and selected abstracts are invited for short oral presentations. This creates a supportive environment for discussion, feedback and networking with both faculty and fellow participants.

The summer school is aimed at clinicians, physician-scientists, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from medicine, biology, psychology, sociology and related disciplines who are eager to broaden their perspective and connect across fields.

Participation is limited to 30 attendees to ensure an excellent staff-to-student ratio and plenty of opportunities for interaction. The Summer School takes place at the beautiful Kartause Ittingen in Warth (Canton Thurgau), is held in English, and offers an immersive setting for learning, exchange and inspiration.
